Jasbir wins top award

Novus Rotary members have congratulated founder-member Jasbir Mann who received an award in the British Sikh Awards 2023 recognising her contribution to Services to Education. Jasbir (in the photo at the top of this web page), who was president in 2011-212, is head teacher at the Sikh-ethos Falcons Primary School Leicester.

The British Sikh Awards is an annual event that celebrates the achievements and contributions of Sikhs in various fields, from business and academia to arts and community service.

The event took place on May 31 at The Holiday Inn, Birmingham Airport NEC. The awards, running for second year, recognised the diversity and richness of Sikh culture and honoured those who have made a positive impact on society.

Throughout the ceremony, individuals and organisations were celebrated for their hard work and dedication, and their success serves as inspiration for others to follow in their footsteps.

The event highlighted the power of community and the importance of recognising and celebrating the accomplishments of all members of society.

A spokesperson for the awards said: “By showcasing the achievements of these remarkable individuals and organisations, we hope to inspire future generations and encourage greater diversity and inclusivity across all aspects of society.

Jasbir had taught in several Leicester schools before taking over as head at Falcons, which is a single school in the AKAAL EDUCATION TRUST in 2014 when the new school had fewer than 50 pupils in its first intake. Now it has more than 300.

The school also has a Peace garden developed and created by Novus Rotary members and other volunteers. You can read about that project here https://rotary-leicesternovus.org/news-2019/ribi-president-visits-our-peace-garden.

Current president of the Rotary Club Ranjit Singh Mann said: “I am delighted by Jasbir’s award. It is well deserved.”

Ranjit should know… Jasbir is his wife!
