Novus president Sarita Shah works in the benefits offfice of Leicester City Council.
When the speaker scheduled to talk at our weekly meeting had to cancel at short notice, Sarita stepped up and gave eight members and one visitor an overview of the changes brought in when Universal Credit was introduced in 2013.
She explained that Universal Credit was intended to simplify the process of claiming but that it had proved problematic for some claimants.
Brexit, she said, was a further complication for some claimants.
Member Pradeep Popat said: “It is mind-boggling”.
Later, members discussed a proposal to buy tablet PCs for children so they can study from home during Lockdown.
Visitor Rodney Spokes, a member of Leicester Rotary and past district governor, reported that he had taken 11 laptops, three I-pads and one Android tablet donated through Rotary Clubs which would help children in Northamptonshire.
