The money had been raised by children and parents at Spinney Hill Primary School when Rotary member Jasbir Mann was Interim Executive Headteacher.

Mr Neuberg, a member of the Rotary Club of Oadby, also gave members an update on the 32 e-Ranger motorcycle ambulances delivered to Uganda. He said that by the end of December, the fleet had carried out 11,707 emergency call-outs. Of those, 6,750 (49.1%) were for maternity emergencies.

The e-Ranger provided by the Novus Rotary Club is based at Namawanga Health Centre in Mbale District. There had been 544 emergency call-outs, of which 227 (42%) were for maternity emergencies and the remainder chiefly for under-fives.
