Artist Faiza Butt discusses her work with Rotary President Gemma Kiddy<\/p><\/div>\n

President Gemma Kiddy, who works in arts administration, arranged a visit to the Attenborough Arts Centre in Leicester which is currently hosting a touring exhibition of work by Faiza Butt.<\/p>\n

The Lahore-born artist, now based in London,\u00a0told Rotary members and guests that she is inspired by the Indian tradition of miniature painting. Using pointillism and digital\u00a0equipment, she creates artwork which features images of violence and masculinity. Several of the pieces on show have images of atom-bomb mushroom clouds in the eye sockets of powerful men.<\/p>\n

The symmetry of the human face leads Faiza to create beautiful, but painful images of children whose eyes stare out of the pictures in a haunting way.<\/p>\n

Many of Fazia’s digital pieces feature images of space and incorporate the interior of beautiful crystalline gemstones. Some includes typefaces designed by Faiza and inspired by Kufic script.<\/p>\n

Some of her most recent work involves paintings of her children within pottery bowls.<\/p>\n

Altogether, the evening was another fascinating success, which led to the Rotary friends lingering to chat about what they had seen.<\/p>\n

Attenborough Arts Centre, (www.attenborougharts.com<\/a>) in Lancaster Road, Leicester, is hosting Faiza’s exhibition until December 18.<\/p>\n
