A total of 183 shoppers who went to Asda in Abbey Lane, Leicester, the day before St George’s Day went home knowing how healthy their heart was. They did so because Rotary clubs in the Leicester joined forces to offer free blood pressure tests.<\/p>\n

Organised by Chris Trivett, of the Rotary Club of Leicester De Montfort, the day-long event was held in conjunction with the Stroke Association. Anonymous data collected from people who had their blood pressures tested, will help the charity develop and provide better services to people with abnormal blood pressures\u00a0\u2014 the cause of thousands of heart attacks and strokes every year.<\/p>\n

The individuals were given a paper record of their health.<\/p>\n

Chris said: “We tested 183 visitors; of which 61 (1\/3) were advised to seek a GP follow-up \u2014\u00a010 within a\u00a0week, the remainder within a\u00a0month.\u00a0 The other 122 visitors were routine observations.\u00a0Thankfully, none of our visitors fell into the ‘refer to hospital’ category.”<\/p>\n

The four\u00a0Rotary Clubs\u00a0\u2014 Leicester, Leicester De Montfort, Leicester Novus and Bradgate\u00a0\u2014 thanked the qualified doctors and nurses whose professional expertise enabled shoppers to receive the best\u00a0advice.<\/p>\n
