Twelve pupils at Mellor Community Primary School have been rewarded for being well-behaved and helpful good citizens.<\/p>\n

The Rotary Stars awards were presented by Pam Spokes, Youth Services Chairman of the Rotary Club of Leicester Novus, at a school assembly.<\/p>\n

The pupils had been nominated for the awards by their teachers. In addition to the Rotary Star badges and certificates which all received, the overall winner judged by Rotarians was\u00a0Tanicha Vishnukumar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Tanicha is 11. Her nominating teacher wrote of her: “Tanicha has been considerate, helpful and tolerant of a child with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) needs all year. Where others have complained about working with this child, she has accepted his difficulties in a very mature way. Tanicha has concentrated well through many distractions and has made outstanding progress in her learning and should do very well in her SATS tests. She is always smiling, respectful and willing to help.”<\/p>\n

The two youngest pupils nominated for awards, Huzaifah Hayat and Esa Makadam (both aged 6), did not attend the assembly, and are pictured below in their classrooms.<\/p>\n

Pam Spokes said how delighted she was that the partnership between the Rotary Club of Leicester Novus and Mellor Primary had resulted in so many young children being recognised and rewarded for acts of good citizenship during the last 12 months.\u00a0\u00a0 Rotary Stars is only one of many projects and competitions organised by Rotary Clubs across the country.\u00a0 Rotarians say that Youth Service is one of the most rewarding avenues of service and provides a major commitment to educating <\/em>future generations.<\/p>\n
