She has been in the city doing doctoral research for a paper provisionally titled: Charity as Guidance and Justice?: John Ruskin’s Views and Practices.
Mai’s mother, Yuka, returned to Leicester recently (she came
last September to help Mai settle in) and the pair set off for a break in Italy. For Mai, it was a working holiday because in The Ducal Palace in Venice,. she found quotations from one of John Ruskin’s most influential books.
On Monday, March 18, Mai presented a poster outlining her academic research to her supervisor, Dr Felicity James, and two other senior academics at Leicester University. They asked Mai about the sponsorship she has received from a Rotary club in Japan and how Rotary shares with Ruskin many of his viewpoints on philanthropy and charity.
Later that day Mai and Yuka attended a meal at The Grange Farm pub\/restaurant in Oadby organised by Novus Rotary, along with guests including Moira Bartlett (Rotary Club of Leicester) and Judith Proctor (Rotary Club of Leicester De Montfort) who have both helped Mai settle in to Leicester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
