For wheelchair-user Eddie, his win was special, coming just weeks after the death of his mother. Over the last five years he has lost both parents. It was also a relief because last year at the same event he had to pull out with a wrist injury.

But it was clear that all the 74 darts competitors (38 men and 36 women) led by runners-up, Andrew Chomyn and Tracey Muffett, had really enjoyed taking part. Not the least of those was Paul Checkland who scored 140 with three darts.

The event was all about friendship, too. Scott Keating and Calum Smith were both members of the Leicestershire team and enjoyed the banter as they sat beside one another to compete. Calum enjoyed Scott’s victory almost as much as Scott, vowing to get revenge next year!

For wheelchair users, a dartboard was set lower than for competitors able to throw from a standing position.

In addition to the darts competition there were competitions in swimming, boccia, kurling, table tennis, weightlifting, shooting, and wheelchair racing, run by various Rotary Clubs from across the east Midlands.

The darts competition was run by members of Leicester Novus, supported by Leicester De Montfort Rotary members and friends. Leicester Novus thank The Darts Shack, Sileby, https://www.thedartsshack.co.uk/product-category/buy-darts-online/
