Immediate Past President Jason Chauhan took over the meeting of Leicester Novus Rotary to hand over \u00a3100 cheques to three representatives of local charities.
Two other charities — Global Sight Solutions and Baby Basics — were unable to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First to receive the cheque was Adrian Walker, a member of Bradgate Rotary Club, fresh from leading the annual Coast to Coast Walk to raise money for hospice charity LOROS.
He thanked Novus Rotary for its ongoing support for the charity which, he said, was dedicated to providing the best quality of life for whatever time is left to its patients.
Adrian praised the charity’s volunteers who were sometimes able to learn more from a patient than a medical profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second up was Graham Thompson, who was president last year of Kibworth and Fleckney Rotary Club. He came to receive a cheque on behalf of Admiral Nurses.
Graham explained that since two speakers from Admiral Nurses spoke to Novus some months ago, five Admiral Nurses have been appointed in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are now two Admiral nurses at Leicester Royal Infirmary, one at LOROS and two community nurses in Rutland. The fundraising group in Charnwood, who received the cheque from Leicester Novus, announced that some of their funds will be used soon to place the first Community Admiral Nurse in Leicestershire. Dementia UK plan to have this nurse in place by the new year, which they hope will then lead to other such nurses, in the community, in Leicestershire.”

Finally, Yvette Adams was invited to say a few words about homelessness charity One Roof Leicester.
She explained that this was an exciting week for the charity because a few days earlier the charity had opened its permanent night shelter at Central Baptist Church, off Charles Street, Leicester,
She said it was hoped that a the six week pilot would be resumed in the spring after the rotating night shelter at several different faith venues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
