The two big bags full of aluminium cans which will become a helipad

Leicester Novus — and several other Rotary clubs in eastern central England — are supporting John Nowell, founder of Helipads For Hospitals, by collecting aluminium cans which are crushed, smelted and will be transformed into helipads for hospitals which currently have no landing area for the air ambulances which serve them.

Novus Rotary is grateful to lots of individuals and a few businesses who are giving cans.

More than 1,700 crushed cans filled another one-tonne builder’s bag (the sort used to deliver sand and gravel). Novus member Jim Matthews was just about to take them to John Nowell’s home in Oakham when he received an e-mail from Judy Ravenhill, of the Inner Wheel Club of Kibworth and Fleckney, offering a second batch. So Jim went to Judy’s home first and took two big bags.

Novus Rotary thanks everyone who is contributing to this appeal which
Reduces littering
Reduces the need to mine more bauxite for aluminium
Provides meaningful work at the prisons where the cans are recycled
Provides somewhere for air ambulances to land, possibly saving the life of a critically-ill patient for whom every second counts.
