Jim, formerly from Market Harborough, is the liaison officer for Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland and has spent two years setting up a close relationship between NCS and Rotary.
NCS, he told us, was set up by the David Cameron government to promote good citizenship by teenagers aged 15 to 17. They do so by taking part in porjects, including during school summer holidays and half-term holidays.
Jim says this is a great opportunity for Rotary clubs, who know their communities, to help locally-based NCS branches. The Leicester centre i<\/a>s based at Frog Island in the city. He said it is also a chance to attract young people into Rotaract, the Rotary organisation for people aged 18-30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"http:\/\/rotary-leicesternovus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Nick-Roberts-Rotaract-Ambassador.png\")
In District 1070, which is the area covered by Rotary family organisations in eastern central England the one-the-ground co-ordination will be led by Rotaract Ambassador Nick Roberts.
Nick said he hoped the three clubs in the city of Leicester might come together to form a small committee to help bring to fruition the NCS-Rotary collaboration.
President Sarita Shah thanked Jim and Chris for addressing the meeting (by Zoom, of course). After the speakers had left the meeting at 9pm, members were delighted to have a late arrival, Kartar Singh Bring, the club’s President Nominee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"http:\/\/rotary-leicesternovus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Novus-member-Kartar-Singh-Bring...-incredibly-busy-during-the-pandemic.png\")

He explained that he had only been able to participate because one of the meetings he had been due to attend that day had been postponed until the following morning.
But Kartar has been continuing his work at hospitals \u2014 wearing hot and stuffy Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). In addition to his ‘day job’ he has been working against hate crimes, on a national task force advising the government on the opening of places of worship and with the National Sikh Assembly.
Speaking of assembly, Kartar is a governor at Falcons Primary School in Leicester. He has been recording assemblies for the locked-down school which have been streamed into homes of the children.
The members all hope to hear more details of his incredibly busy pandemic schedule when time and permits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
