Shelterboxes — big green plastic boxes which contain a well-equipped tent for up to a dozen people whose lives have been turned upside down by disaster — have helped saved thousands of lives.
At £590 they are not cheap, but they are absolutely vital in areas like earthquake-hit Nepal or Syria.
The generous parents and pupils at the Falcons Primary School in Gipsy Lane Leicester responded magnificently when head teacher Jasbir Mann, a member and past president of Leicester Novus Rotary Club, invited them to raise money for Shelterbox.
In double-quick time they raised enough money to buy a Shelterbox, which they will be able to track online to see where it is sent.
Rotarian Alan Jones, a member of the Rotary Club of Hinckley Ambion, offered to take a Shelterbox to the school summer fete so parents and children could see what is inside.
