On the day that thousands of people lined Leicestershire’s roads to see the procession taking the body of King Richard III to his final resting place, hundreds of competitors, parents and teachers went to Leicester Grammar School for the day-long District 1070 finals of the Young Musician of the Year competition.
The standard of musicianship was superb, with several youngsters going through to the regional finals in Yorkshire.
Less visibly, behind the scenes were many Rotarians making sure the day went smoothly. Among them were several from the Rotary Club of Leicester Novus, encouraged by their President Elect Gemma Kiddy, who helped run the event.
One Novus member, restaurateur Pradeep Popat, provided refreshments, while others helped serve them and others manned the administration desks.
All agreed that the day had been well-run and enjoyed by all who had taken part and watched.
