Doctoral student Mai Tsumura from Japan is forging strong links with the Rotary Club of Leicester Novus.
Several weeks before arriving to study English at Leicester University, Mai — sponsored by the Rotary Club of Nishinomiya-Ebusa in Japan — e-mailed the club saying she wanted to get involved with its activities. She had read on this website that club members would be helping the Rainbows children’s hospice charity stage its Bubble Rush fundraising event in Abbey Park and said she wanted to help.
So,just five days after arriving in Leicester, she reported at Abbey Park at 7am to help four other Novus members and other Rainbows supporters to set up gazebos and signs ready for the event.
Job done, a couple of hours later she strolled through the tranquility of Abbey Park and learned a little about the remains of the 12th century abbey.
After the ‘pathfinder group’ left, Novus member Sarita Shah spent three and a half yours helping to look after the hundreds of participants who took part. To check how successful the fundraising event went, please check out this link https://www.rainbows.co.uk/events/rainbows-bubble-rush-leicester
