Rotary Stars is the name of a Rotary project designed to reward and encourage good citizenship. Secretary/Youth Service lead Pam Spokes is the member who runs it for the Rotary Club of Leicester Novus. This is her report
I was pleased to attend a Celebration Assembly at Mellor Primary School, Checketts Road, on Friday 14 December 2018 to present Rotary Star certificates to 16 pupils aged between five and 11, representing every school year. The awards are designed to acknowledge children who deserve recognition and encouragement.
Nominated by their teachers, they all demonstrated good attitudes to learning, helping others and good citizenship. They are listed below, together with a brief resume of the reason for nomination:
Ananya Pankhania
for being kind, friendly and supportive to others, having a super work ethic and good leadership skills
Vidhi Natvarlal
for overcoming her shyness and showing increased confidence by participating in class discussions
Inaya Khan
for being polite and showing a welcoming attitude towards new children – a great friend
Marta Uciecha
for showing empathy and compassion to others, being reliable and always doing her best
Gabriel Lenartowicz
for showing a diligent attitude and considerate manner, supporting others – a good role model
Om Hitesh Kumar
for being a good friend, kind, generous, helpful, showing respect and always smiling
Arya Patel
for being kind-hearted, having a clear understanding of right and wrong and always smiling
Lorenzo Dundas
for having a great attitude towards learning and being kind and thoughtful towards others

Aliya Karim for demonstrating great kindness and friendship to a new pupil and being an amazing role model
Sulaiman Shiham for being a caring student, helping others, taking excellent care of an SEND child
Vansh Itesh for being approachable and friendly, willing to listen and always putting other people first
Vansh Pankhania for being extremely committed to his learning and going the extra mile to produce something spectacular
Chloe Ryles for being kind and helpful, treating others with respect and supporting younger children
Olivier Malecki for showing an eagerness to learn and working collaboratively with others
Ameerah Khan for being a model of positive behaviour, helping others, consistently displaying honesty, friendship and optimism
President Jason Chauhan said: “These Rotary Star awards are designed to encourage good attitudes to learning, helping others and good citizenship.”
