Young designers show off their skills

Fifty-six young people competed in the final of the Young Designer Competition organised by Colin Derrick on behalf of Leicester Rotary Club.

Four of them were sponsored by the Rotary Club of Leicester Novus.

Rukhsar Kasmani and Juwayriyyah Salim are students at Crown Hills Community College – both entries were textile design.

Milan Aryal and Manjot Singh are students at Lancaster Academy Milan’s entry was “Numerics Perfume Packaging” and Manjot’s was “The IABS Aftershave bottle”

Twelve judges assessed the entries from the 56 students. Unfortunately, none of the students sponsored by Leicester Novus received awards, but all entrants were congratulated on their work and given certificates for taking part.

The overall winner of Young Designer of the Year, given by De Montfort University, who hosted the event, was Sam Walker of Leicester Grammar School, sponsored by the RC of Oadby Launde.

Prizes were also presented for the Young Artist, Young Photographer and Young Writer competitions.
