Covid delays chains hand-over – Rotary Club Of Leicester Novus

Covid delays chains hand-over

Sarita Shah hangs the President’s chain of office around the neck of her successor, President Kartar Singh Bring

President Kartar Singh Bring received his president’s chain of office from Immediate Past President Sarita Shah at a garden party —the first opportunity many members had to meet in public — a couple of months after taking over.

Maya Vansia pins a ‘Past President’s badge on Sarita Shah

In turn, Sarita received her past-president’s ‘gong’ from Maya Vansia.

Unfortunately, President-Elect Ranjit Singh Mann was not able to be present to collect his chain of office.

The past presidents who were able to line up for this photo included Sarita (2020-2021), Maya (2019-2020). Jason Chauhan (2018-2019), and former members Dipan Bhagalia (2014-2015) and Gemma Bhagalia (2015-2017).

The event was a very informal affair with delicious finger-food provided by Sarita and her sister Sonal, who owns The Pizza Parlour in Belgrave Gate, Leicester.

Members saw — but sensibly did not taste — the contents of the club’s refreshments box which has been locked away in a cupboard at the club’s usual meeting place, Elizabeth Park Sports Centre, Checkland Road, Thurmaston, Leicester LE4 8FN since before the first Covid Lockdown,

The member who collected the box a day or two before the sisters provided the garden party lunch confirmed that two tea-bags which had been unpacked and left were stale and the tea was undrinkable. On the other hand, he reported that the biscuits were ‘soft’ but still tasty!

Those biscuits will not be offered when the club meets back at Thurmaston on Thursday, 09/09/2021 when our speaker will be author Gay Redstone. The meeting will be a ‘hybrid’ meeting with some members present in person and some attending via the conferencing program Zoom which the club has been using for the last 14 months.
