It’s July 1. That means it’s New Year’s Day for the 1.2 million Rotarians across the world.
And for about 32,000 of them, it’s the day they become president of their club.
On this day in non-Lockdown years, those incoming presidents would receive their chains of office from the outgoing presidents. The outgoing presidents would receive a ‘past president’s chain’ and the president-elects would get a medallion, too.
But in these Lockdown days, when Novus Rotary is meeting via Zoom,, the closes they could get was to hold them up.
Left out of the party was visitor Scott Gallacher, who will receive his medallion on Monday as he is formally inducted as president of the Rotary Club of Leicester.
Incoming Novus president Kartar Singh Bring paid tribute to Sarita Shah who must wait to receive her past-president’s medal. When it was pointed out that the club had given £4,074 to various charities and good causes during her year, she said, simply: “I’m chuffed!”
If you would like to know what Novus will be getting up to in Kartar’s year, please revisit this website or e-mail the club by clicking on the Contact Us link at the top of every page on this website.
