At their meeting last week, members of Leicester Novus Rotary agreed to buy eight Kindle Fire tablet PCs to help children at Mellor Community Primary School.
Within days, the 16-member club had donated £220 and agreed to top that up from reserves to £400.
Amazon allow only six such devices be bought at a time. They were ordered on Tuesday and delivered to the home of Novus secretary Pam Spokes the following day. Two more are on order.
Pam and her husband Rodney took them to the school and handed them to Deputy Head teacher Asif Esat, who had advised what sort of tablets would be suitable and how many would be needed.
They will be used by children learning from home during the current COVID Lockdown.
Pam and Asif have worked together on the Rotary Stars programme, which seeks to encourage and reward good citizenship among schoolchildren.
Reporting back to the club, Pam announced that she and Asif are considering ways which the award scheme can be adapted during Lockdown.
