Nearly 200 families in Leicester will have an Easter egg thanks to the Rotary Club of Leicester and the Rotary Club of Leicester Novus.
The initiative to donate Easter eggs was led for Leicester Rotary by Diana Esho and Novus, the club of which her husband Mark is a member, quickly got on board. Members donated cash.
Diana, along with Novus President Sarita Shah and past president Jason Chauhan, handed over 170 chocolate eggs to Annette Kenningham, co-founder of the Community Food Hub at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on the corner of London Road and University Road, and volunteer and organiser Vincent Halliday.
The eggs will be passed to asylum-seekers, the 50 or so families who rely on the food bank based at the church, and local children entitled to free school meals. The Rotarians hope the gifts will bring some pleasure to all.
With laughter in her voice, Annette expressed her gratitude.

The following day, Annette wrote to say that delivering the Easter eggs had started and one recipient commented: “You’d give our family eggs for free — you’re wonderful.”
