When Secret Santa President-Elect Kartar Singh Bring delivered mystery gifts to Novus Rotary members, he was accompanied by President Sarita Shah who had a surprise of her own… his chain of office.
COVID rules have meant that this was the first chance that Sarita had had to give him the President-Elect’s chain of office.
On July 1, Kartar will take over from Sarita and will hand the yellow-ribboned medal to President-Designate Ranjit Singh Mann.
Sarita and Kartar visited the homes of all 16 Leicester Novus Rotary members to deliver the secret gifts, Christmas cards and members’ handbooks, which had not been distributed at the start of the current Rotary year last July.
Sarita was enjoying the ride — even though Kartar’s car was not a sleigh — because the previous day she had walked three miles in the Santa Fun Run organised by the Rotary Club of Northampton, the Rotary E-Club of District 1070 and the Rotaract Club of Northampton.
Before COVID, the three clubs had hoped people would be able to talk together and clock up 2,850 kilometres, the distance from Northampton to Rovaniemi, Lapland, where the real Santa’s real elves are busy preparing for their Big Day.
