Leicester Novus Rotary will be 10 years old in the summer of 2019 but the youngsters could not wait to celebrate. So they chose a Thursday as close as possible to February 23, the date of the first ever Rotary meeting in Chicago in 1905.
They decided to link it as one of the World’s Greatest Meals to raise money to put and end to polio.
One hundred and fifty-four guests enjoyed the usual superb buffet on offer at The Chef and Spice Restaurant in Leicester. Among the guests was Rotarian Debbie Hodge, leader of all the Rotarians and Rotary Clubs in Great Britain and Ireland. Without a doubt her presence helped the club to more than sell-out the number of meals available for the event.
Early indications are that the evening made more than £1,300 for End Polio Now.
Debbie and her husband Mike said they had enjoyed many stimulating conversations with Rotarians and non-Rotarians in the informal setting of the restaurant.
