Rotary exists to serve people locally, nationally and internationally. But Rotarians reckon they can do that best when they have cemented relationships by having fun.
So, with only a few days left of the current Rotary year, Novus members met for fun and a game of petanque, or boules, at the Blue Bell, Hoby. That’s the French game similar to bowls where steel balls often come together with a resounding clunk!
Few of the competitors had played before. Visiting Japanese academic had Atsuko Miyake played before and did well, but not as well as Channi Riyait whose knowledge of the French game was limited to learning about it on Google!
Appropriately, considering he has only a few more days before he is a Past President, Jason Chauhan won and generously shared out his winner’s prize, a box of chocolates.
All agreed that the evening — and the meal enjoyed halfway through, had been very good. They were lucky to have a sunny, dry and warm-ish evening.
Jason’s last event will be held at the Grange Farm restaurant in Oadby on Thursday, June 27th.
