COVID has prevented members of Leicester Novus Rotary from meeting face to face. Consequently, some of the usual rituals which take place at the end of each Rotary years have not happened.
Normally, on or near July 1, the new president would have handed to the outgoing president a ‘past president’s medal’. New president Sarita Shah, living within Locked-down Leicester, was not able to hand it to Maya Vansia, who lives outside the city.
But when Jim Matthews collected from Maya and her husband Pradip hundreds of aluminium cans for the Helipads For Hospital charity, he was able to hand over a memento of Maya’s memorable year in office, which was a success despite being disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.
