The COVID-19 crisis has prevented Leicester Novus Rotary members from meeting face to face. So when Immediate Past President Maya Vansia and 2020-2021 President Sarita Shah met doing some Community Service, Maya seized the opportunity of hanging the chain of office around the neck of Sarita.
Sarita has chaired all of the weekly Thursday evening meetings since taking over on July 1. The meetings have been held via the Zoom e-conferencing software.
Two days after receiving the ‘gong’ she was due to chair a meeting with a rather special guest speaker.
The ‘visit’ of Rotarian Tom Griffin on Thursday, August 20, 2020 will be the first time that the President of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland will have spoken directly to Leicester Novus Rotary Club since its formation in 2009.
It was when he was 18 years old that Tom first spoke to Rotary in Scotland explaining what he would do when he had studied the law. In 1984 he joined Selkirk Rotary Club in the Scottish borders. His work in local government took him to Essex, where he joined Maldon Rotary Club then to Suffolk, where he joined Woodbridge Deben Rotary Club, where he still is a member.
